The GYG Story

Guzman y Gomez was born from a simple belief: that fast food could be genuinely good food — made fresh, with real ingredients and real care.

Founded in 2006 in Sydney, Australia, GYG set out to reinvent what Mexican-inspired food could mean in this part of the world. Our founders were obsessed with one thing — bringing the vibrant, soulful flavours of Mexico to Australian tables, without compromise.

From a single restaurant in Newtown, Sydney, we've grown into one of Australia's most loved food chains, with hundreds of locations across the country and beyond. But our values have never changed.

The First Taco

Guzman y Gomez opens its first restaurant in Newtown, Sydney. The mission is clear: bring bold, authentic Mexican-inspired flavours to Australia without compromise.
